This is the chef's knife from All-Clad's Forged line: one piece of X50CrMoV15 German stainless steel, a full tang, an angled bolster and a triple-riveted POM handle. All-Clad says the blade gets a liquid nitrogen treatment for rust resistance and edge retention, and sharpens it to a 26-degree edge. It is meant for the everyday jobs: meat, vegetables, herbs, nuts.

It suits someone who wants one dependable Western-style knife. If you prefer a thinner, harder Japanese-style blade with a narrower edge, this is not that knife. The same line has a 6-inch chef's knife for smaller hands or boards.

Worth knowing Designed in Pennsylvania but made in China, unlike All-Clad's US-made cookware. A 26-degree edge is sturdy rather than razor-thin.

The Klein RT250 plugs into a standard 120V three-prong outlet and shows the line voltage, names the wiring fault if there is one, and on GFCI outlets measures how long the outlet takes to trip. It also checks for open neutral and open ground faults, which simpler testers can miss. An auto-hold keeps the reading on screen after you pull it out, which helps with outlets behind furniture.

It suits anyone swapping outlets, buying an older house or checking a new circuit. Klein also sells it in a kit with a non-contact voltage tester, which is the better buy if you have neither.

Worth knowing North American 3-wire 120V outlets only, so no two-prong outlets and no 240V. It runs on two AAA batteries (included).

The ProMedia Lumina is the 2025 successor to Klipsch's long-running ProMedia desktop speakers. It is two horn-loaded two-way satellites and an upright subwoofer with a 6.5-inch side-firing driver, rated at 100W RMS. Inputs are USB-C, 3.5mm aux and Bluetooth 5.3. Klipsch's Windows app adds a six-band EQ, music, movie and virtual surround modes, a night mode that pulls back the bass, and lighting that can react to the screen.

It suits a gaming or work desk where one set of speakers covers everything. If you have no use for the lighting or the app, a plainer 2.1 system covers the basics.

Worth knowing The lighting and most settings are run from a Windows app; Mac users get the mobile app instead. The subwoofer needs floor or desk space beside you.

Microsoft Xbox Elite Series 2 Core Wireless Controller (White)

The Core is the same controller as the full Elite Series 2: adjustable-tension thumbsticks with three settings, shorter hair trigger locks, a wrap-around rubberized grip, up to three profiles stored on the controller and a built-in rechargeable battery rated for up to 40 hours. It connects to Xbox by Xbox Wireless and to PC, Android and iOS by Bluetooth, or by the included 9-foot USB-C cable.

What it leaves out is the kit: no back paddles, spare D-pad, extra thumbsticks, charging dock or case. Microsoft sells those as the Complete Component Pack. If you want paddles from day one, the full Elite Series 2 bundle is the simpler buy.

Worth knowing No back paddles in the box, and paddles are a big part of why people buy an Elite. Button remapping needs the Xbox Accessories app on Xbox or Windows.

Igloo's Marine Ultra 54 is a mid-size hard cooler with THERMECOOL foam in the body and lid, UV inhibitors in the white shell, stainless steel screws and hinge, a hybrid latch and a fish ruler molded into the lid. It has four drain-through cup holders on top, swing-up handles and a recessed drain plug. Igloo rates it at 76 cans and gives the outside as about 25 by 15 by 16 inches.

It suits a boat, a beach day or a tailgate. For several days off-grid, a roto-molded cooler holds ice longer, but is far heavier.

Worth knowing The listing says 85 cans; Igloo's own page says 76. At about 10.6 lb empty and 25 inches long, it is a two-hand carry once loaded.

The Vault is The North Face's simplest laptop daypack: about 27 liters, a padded sleeve for laptops up to 15 inches in the main compartment, a front pocket for smaller things, and the FlexVent suspension with padded shoulder straps and back panel. It stands up on its own, which makes packing it on a floor or a desk easier, and carries an American Chiropractic Association endorsement.

It suits a student or commuter who wants a no-fuss bag. Those who carry more, or want more pockets inside, should look at the larger Jester or Recon.

Worth knowing This is the classic 27L Vault; The North Face also now sells a redesigned 28L version, so check the color and size listed. It holds a 15-inch laptop at most.

24-Oz Stanley Classic Legendary Vacuum Insulated Food Jar (Hammertone Green)

Stanley's Classic Legendary Food Jar is a double-wall vacuum-insulated jar in 18/8 stainless steel, 90 percent recycled. Stanley rates the 24-ounce size at 15 hours hot and 18 hours cold. The insulated lid works as a cup, the mouth is wide enough to clean easily, it is leakproof, and the whole jar goes in the dishwasher. It is about 8.5 inches tall and weighs 1.4 lb empty.

It suits someone taking soup, chili or oatmeal to work or on a trip. For a desk lunch you reheat anyway, a lighter plastic container does the job.

Worth knowing At 1.4 lb empty it is heavier than a plastic container. Pre-heat it with hot water first to get close to the rated hours.
