The LS50 Meta is a two-way bass reflex speaker built around KEF's 12th-generation Uni-Q driver: a 25 mm aluminium tweeter sitting in the centre of a 130 mm aluminium cone, so treble and midrange come from the same point. Behind the tweeter is KEF's Metamaterial Absorption Technology, a maze-like part meant to soak up sound from the rear of the driver. Over the original LS50, KEF also lists a reworked, offset flexible port.
Each cabinet is about 30 cm tall and 7.8 kg, and the box holds a pair. KEF quotes 79 Hz to 28 kHz (plus or minus 3 dB), 8 ohms nominal and 85 dB sensitivity.
Worth knowing These are passive: they need an amplifier, and KEF recommends 40 to 100 W. With 85 dB sensitivity a very small amp will struggle. Stands are sold separately.
