KitchenAid Artisan, 5-Qt Tilt Head Stand Mixer, KSM150PS, Aqua Sky | Includes Pouring Shield for Mess-Free Mixing, 10 Speed Settings

The Artisan KSM150PS is KitchenAid's mid-size tilt-head stand mixer: a metal body, a 5-quart stainless steel bowl with a handle, and 10 speeds. In the box are the bowl, a coated flat beater, a coated dough hook, a 6-wire whip and a pouring shield. KitchenAid says the bowl holds enough dough for about nine dozen cookies.

It suits someone who bakes often and wants one machine for doughs, batters and whipped cream. The head tilts back to reach the bowl and locks while mixing. The front hub takes KitchenAid's optional attachments, such as a pasta roller or a food grinder, so the mixer can take on more jobs later. If you only bake a few times a year, a hand mixer takes far less room.

Worth knowing A stand mixer this size wants a permanent spot on the counter, and the hub attachments are sold separately. This deal is for the Aqua Sky color.

The Px8 is the first version of Bowers & Wilkins' leather-and-aluminum flagship over-ear headphones. Each side has a 40mm carbon cone driver, noise cancelling uses six microphones, Bluetooth is aptX Adaptive, and the maker lists 30 hours of playback. The earpads are memory foam under Nappa leather, and setup and EQ run through the Bowers & Wilkins Music app.

It suits someone who listens to a lot of music and wants premium materials in a headphone they wear all day. The model above, the Px8 S2, keeps the same driver size and battery figure and moves to aptX Lossless. The Px7 S2e below uses a fabric finish and bio-cellulose drivers. Anyone who mostly wants silence on flights may be better served by a headphone built around noise cancelling first.

Worth knowing This is the first-generation Px8, and the Px8 S2 has replaced it as the current model. The aptX Adaptive codec only works with phones that support it.

DEWALT 12-inch Double Bevel Miter Saw (DWS780)

The DWS780 is a corded 12-inch sliding compound miter saw with a 15-amp, 3,800 RPM motor. It bevels left and right, and the slide lets it cross-cut boards up to 2x14 at 90 degrees and 2x10 at 45. DEWALT's XPS system lights up the cut line, with nothing to calibrate. Tall sliding fences hold crown molding up to 7-1/2 inches nested and base molding up to 6-3/4 inches standing against the fence. The box has the saw, a 12-inch carbide blade, a dust bag, a vertical clamp and a blade wrench.

It suits someone doing trim, flooring or deck work who wants one saw for wide and tall cuts. For occasional cuts on 2x4s, DEWALT's single-bevel DWS715 without a slide is a smaller, simpler saw. The DCS785 is the cordless 20V version.

Worth knowing This is a large corded saw that needs a stand or a sturdy bench, sold separately. The dust bag catches most of the dust, not all of it.
