A short list from the deals on this site that day: what each thing is, who it suits and what to know before you buy. We don't test products, so these are not reviews. How we pick

  1. 1 Home & Kitchen

Shark Matrix Plus Robot Vacuum & Mop Combo, 60-Day Self-Emptying, AV2610WA

A LIDAR-mapping robot that vacuums and mops in one pass, then empties itself into a bagless base. Suits homes with mixed floors and pets.

The Matrix Plus (AV2610WA) maps the home with a 360-degree LIDAR sensor, then cleans in a criss-cross grid rather than a single pass, which Shark calls Matrix Clean. A vibrating mop pad scrubs hard floors while it vacuums, and the app can send it back to one spot for a deeper Matrix Mop. The base is bagless, uses a HEPA filter and holds up to 60 days of debris, so there are no bags to buy.

It suits a house with carpet and hard floors and a shedding pet: the brushroll is self-cleaning, and you can set carpet zones and no-go zones in the SharkClean app. Shark lists 110 minutes of run time, and the robot recharges and resumes on its own if a big floor runs it flat.

Worth knowing At 17.2 lb with its 5.7-inch cleaning path, it is a large robot for a small flat. Mopping is a pass on hard floors while it vacuums, not a replacement for a proper wet mop on sticky spills.

Bowers & Wilkins Px8 Over-Ear Wireless Active Noise Cancelling Headphones

Bowers & Wilkins' flagship noise-cancelling headphones in leather and aluminium, for someone who listens for hours and cares about build.

The Px8 uses two 40mm carbon-cone drivers, angled inside the cups, with hybrid noise cancelling driven by four microphones and two more for calls. Bowers & Wilkins rates the battery at 30 hours, and 15 minutes on the charger gives about seven. It supports aptX Adaptive and aptX HD for Android phones and AAC for iPhones, and it can play over USB-C as well as Bluetooth.

The build is the point: Nappa leather, aluminium arms and memory-foam pads, with a carry case and both a USB-C and a USB-C to 3.5mm cable in the box. If you only want strong noise cancelling for a commute, lighter and simpler headphones do that job; this is for someone who wants the materials and the sound.

Worth knowing This is the first Px8. The newer Px8 S2 adds aptX Lossless; the drivers, battery figures and materials are the same.

  3. 3 Gaming & Media

Razer Orochi V2 Wireless Gaming Mouse (2 Colors)

A small, light wireless mouse that runs on one AA battery and switches between Bluetooth and a USB dongle. Good for a laptop bag.

The Orochi V2 weighs under 60 g without its battery and has a compact, symmetrical shape. It takes a single AA (or AAA) cell instead of a built-in battery, and Razer rates it at up to 1100 hours on Bluetooth or 445 hours on its 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed dongle, measured with a lithium AA. The dongle stores inside the mouse under the top cover.

Inside are Razer's Focus X 18K optical sensor, six programmable buttons and second-generation mechanical switches. It suits someone who games on a laptop or wants one mouse for work and play across two devices.

Worth knowing There is no lighting and no built-in rechargeable battery, and the small body can feel cramped for large hands held in a palm grip.

  4. 4 Tools & DIY

DeWALT Retractable Utility Knife w/ Blade Storage

A zinc-bodied retractable utility knife that carries five spare blades in the handle. A sensible one for a toolbox or the kitchen drawer.

This is DeWalt's DWHT10998 retractable knife. The body is zinc rather than plastic, the slider has been redesigned to run smoothly, and a rapid-load mechanism swaps blades without a screwdriver. Up to five spare blades ride inside the handle, so you are not hunting for a new one mid-job.

It suits anyone who opens boxes, trims carpet or scores drywall now and then and wants a knife that locks the blade firmly. The ToughSeries model above it holds ten blades; for occasional use, five is plenty.

Worth knowing It comes with one blade, so the storage in the handle starts empty and spare blades are a separate buy.

  5. 5 Kids & Toys

Hot Wheels Mario Wheelie Motocross RC, Remote-Control Motorcycle

A remote-control Mario motorbike from the Super Mario Galaxy Movie line that pops a wheelie at one button. For young Mario fans.

Mattel's Hot Wheels RC Mario Wheelie Motocross is a rear-wheel-drive remote-control motorbike with Mario riding it. One button on the remote makes the bike lift onto its wheelie bar, and when it turns, the Mario figure tilts his head. It ties in with the Super Mario Galaxy Movie, so it works as a gift for a child who has seen it.

It suits a child who already loves Mario more than one who wants a fast hobby RC: the fun here is the wheelie stunt and the figure, not speed or off-road ability.

Worth knowing It is battery-powered, so check the box for which cells it needs before giving it. Mattel notes colours and decoration may vary.
