Most kitchens need a 5- or 6-quart basket air fryer, and the one to buy is the Cosori TurboBlaze 6-Quart: it reaches 450°F, matches its fan speed to each of its nine programs, and has a ceramic-coated basket that goes in the dishwasher. Buy smaller if counter space is the problem, and bigger only if you regularly cook for four or more at once.
The quart figure on the box is the basket's volume, and it is the least useful number on the spec sheet. An air fryer browns food by blowing hot air over it, so it crisps well only what sits in roughly one layer on the basket floor; Cosori's manual warns that an overfilled basket cooks unevenly. Makers' serving counts are loose too: Cosori rates its 5-quart and its 6-quart baskets for the same three to five people.
Two numbers decide more, and they are the ones people forget to check: how much counter the machine takes, including the room it needs around it, and how hot it gets. The footprints are drawn to scale and the top temperatures charted below.
We compared fourteen basket air fryers from Cosori, Instant, Ninja and Dash using each maker's product page, spec sheet and manual. Four of our five picks are Cosori. That is where the numbers led: at each size we looked at, the Cosori model had a higher top temperature, a smaller footprint or a lower list price than the Instant and Ninja models it was up against. The ones we passed over, and why, are at the end.

The TurboBlaze is the air fryer to buy if you want one machine that covers everything a basket air fryer does well. Its 6-quart square basket is Cosori's middle size, and the heater runs from 90°F, low enough to proof bread dough, up to 450°F. That is the highest top temperature of the single-basket picks here, and 50 degrees above the Instant.
The fan is the difference you can't see. Cosori uses a DC motor with five speeds and assigns one to each of the nine programs (Air Fry, Roast, Bake, Broil, Dehydrate, Frozen, Proof, Reheat and Keep Warm), which Cosori says is how it controls how much moisture the food loses. You can't pick a speed yourself. That keeps the controls simple, but it means choosing the right program matters more here than on a machine with one fan speed.
The basket and crisper plate are ceramic-coated, which Cosori describes as PFAS-free, and both go in the dishwasher. It takes 11.8 by 14.4 inches of counter with the handle, almost exactly the Instant's footprint, as the floor plans show, and it weighs 13.2 pounds. Against the Pro LE you pay for one more quart, a stronger heater (1,725 watts against 1,500) and the ceramic coating; against the Instant you give up the window and gain 50 degrees.
Good
- 450°F top temperature, the highest of the single-basket picks
- A fan speed matched to each of nine programs
- Ceramic-coated, dishwasher-safe basket and plate
Worth knowing
- You can't set the fan speed yourself
- No window: you pull the basket to check the food
- 13.2 pounds to lift and store

- Footprint
- 11.8 x 14.9 in

The Vortex Plus ClearCook is for the cook who pulls the basket every two minutes to see whether the fries are done. Instant set a window into the front of the basket and put a light inside the machine, on its own button, so you can check the browning without opening the drawer and letting the heat out.
Everything else is a capable 6-quart air fryer. It has six programs (air fry, roast, broil, bake, reheat and dehydrate), lets you save your own time and temperature for each of them, and shows a Turn Food prompt partway through so you remember to shake the basket. The heater is 1,700 watts. Dehydrate runs as low as 95°F for as long as 72 hours, the longest timer of any pick here, which makes it the better choice if jerky and dried fruit are on your list.
The cost of the window is heat. Air Fry tops out at 400°F, 50 degrees below the Cosori TurboBlaze and Pro LE, and that difference shows most in the last few minutes, when you want color on wings or frozen food. It takes 11.8 by 14.9 inches of counter and stands 13 inches tall, the tallest machine here. Instant doesn't list its weight on the product page or in the manual, which is why the weight chart has a gap.
One quirk in Instant's own price list: the plain Vortex Plus 6-quart, without the window, lists for more than this one.
Good
- A window and an interior light: check food without opening it
- Your own settings saved on each of six programs
- Dehydrate from 95°F for up to 72 hours
Worth knowing
- Tops out at 400°F, 50 degrees below the Cosori picks
- The tallest here, at 13 inches
- Instant doesn't publish its weight

3Best for a small counter
Cosori Pro LE 5.0-Quart Air Fryer
- Capacity
- 5 qt (4.7 L)
- Top temperature
- 450°F
- Footprint
- 10.7 x 10.8 in (Cosori's figure)

The Pro LE fits a 5-quart basket into the smallest body of the full-size picks: 10.7 by 10.8 inches by Cosori's measure, against 11.8 by 14.4 for the TurboBlaze. That figure appears to leave out the basket handle, which on Cosori's other models adds two to three inches of depth, so allow for it when you measure. Even then it is the smallest full-size footprint here.
It gives up one quart to the TurboBlaze and none of the heat: the range runs from 170°F to 450°F. The heater is smaller, 1,500 watts against 1,725, and Cosori's page for it says nothing of the TurboBlaze's per-program fan speeds. Cosori rates it under 55 decibels and puts the controls on a glass panel angled up toward you, so you can read it from above. It weighs 10 pounds.
Cosori's manual describes the basket as aluminum with a nonstick coating; it doesn't call it ceramic, as it does for the TurboBlaze and TwinFry. Cosori lists the Pro LE for three to five people, the same as the 6-quart TurboBlaze. Read it as a good size for two or three. Cosori says the basket takes a whole 4-pound chicken.
It is also the least expensive full-size pick at its maker's list price.
Good
- Smallest full-size footprint here
- The same 450°F top temperature as the TurboBlaze
- Least expensive full-size pick at list price
Worth knowing
- One quart less than the 6-quart picks
- 1,500 watts, against 1,725 on the TurboBlaze
- Cosori's footprint figure appears to leave out the handle

4Best for a family
Cosori TwinFry 9-Quart Double Air Fryer
- Capacity
- 9 qt, or two 4.5 qt
- Top temperature
- 465°F
- Footprint
- 19.0 x 11.9 in, with handle

The TwinFry is two air fryers when you need two and one big one when you don't. A removable divider splits its 9-quart basket into two 4.5-quart zones, each with its own time and temperature. Take the divider out and you have one basket that Cosori says fits a whole chicken. Sync makes two zones finish at the same moment, so the fries and the chicken come out together, and Match copies one zone's settings to the other.
That flexibility is what fixed two-drawer models lack. Cosori's own 9-Quart Dual Basket, and Ninja's DualZone 8-Quart, have two separate drawers that can't be joined, so a roast or a big batch of wings has to fit in half the machine.
It also runs hotter than anything else here, from 95°F up to 465°F, on 1,750 watts, and the basket and crisper plates carry the same ceramic coating as the TurboBlaze, which Cosori describes as PFAS-free. The cost is space: 19 inches on its long side and 11.9 on the other with the handle, about a third more counter than the 6-quart picks, and 17.2 pounds to move. Look at the floor plans before you order. For a family of four that eats one dish at a time, a single 6-quart basket cooked in two rounds still does the job in less room.
Good
- One 9-quart basket or two 4.5-quart zones
- Sync and Match for two foods at once
- Highest top temperature here, 465°F
Worth knowing
- Biggest footprint here, 19 inches on its long side
- 17.2 pounds
- Two crisper plates and a divider to wash

5Best for one person
Cosori Lite 2.1-Quart Mini Air Fryer
- Capacity
- 2.1 qt (2.0 L)
- Top temperature
- 400°F
- Footprint
- 8.3 x 10.1 in, with handle
Paid link. We may earn a commission; your price is the same.
If you cook for one, a big basket mostly heats air. The Lite 2.1-Quart is sized for a single person, in Cosori's own words, and takes 8.3 by 10.1 inches of counter with the handle: the smallest footprint here, and well under half the TwinFry's. At 4.87 pounds it is light enough to keep in a cupboard and bring out when you need it, which a 13-pound machine never is.
The small size sets the limits. There are four programs (air fry, roast, bake and reheat), the heater draws 900 watts, and the top temperature is 400°F, the same as the Instant. Cosori rates it below 48 decibels, the lowest figure any maker gives for a model here.
It suits the jobs a solo cook does most: a portion of frozen fries or nuggets, a chicken breast, last night's pizza brought back crisp. Cosori also pitches it as a second machine for a family's side dishes. For that job, look at the TwinFry first; one machine with a divider takes less counter than two.
Good
- Smallest and lightest here
- The lowest noise figure any maker gives here
- Light enough to store in a cupboard
Worth knowing
- Four programs, 900 watts and a 400°F top
- One portion at a time
- No broil or dehydrate program
All specs

How to choose an air fryer
Start with how many you cook for at once. Makers' serving counts are loose, so go by one layer of food on the basket floor. One person: about 2 quarts. Two or three: 5 quarts. Three or four: 6 quarts. Four or more who eat together, or anyone who wants a main and a side ready at the same moment: 8 quarts and up, ideally with a basket that can be divided or opened into one.
Then measure the counter, and the space around it. The basket pulls out the front, so you need room in front of the machine as well as under it. Cosori's and Instant's manuals both ask for 5 inches of clear space behind and above the air fryer while it runs, and Instant asks for the same on every side. The tallest pick here stands 13 inches, so check the gap between your counter and the cabinets above before you plan to run it in place. Makers measure footprints differently, too: Cosori's figures for the TurboBlaze, TwinFry and Lite include the basket handle, Instant's doesn't say, and Cosori's for the Pro LE appears not to.
Top temperature decides the browning. The picks top out at 400°F, 450°F or 465°F. The extra heat matters most at the end of a cook, when you want color on wings or frozen fries without drying out the inside.
Know what coats the basket. Cosori sells the TurboBlaze and TwinFry baskets as ceramic-coated and PFAS-free. The Pro LE, the Lite and the Instant are described simply as nonstick. Cosori's and Instant's manuals both say to keep metal utensils off the coating.
Count the buttons you will use. Programs are presets for time, temperature and, on the TurboBlaze, fan speed. Most people use Air Fry and Reheat; Dehydrate, Proof and Broil matter only if you know you want them.
What we left out, and why
- Ninja Air Fryer Pro (AF141). The same 5 quarts as the Cosori Pro LE on a bigger footprint, 14.84 by 11.34 inches, with a 400°F top temperature and a higher list price.
- Ninja Air Fryer Pro XL (AF181). Half a quart more than the TurboBlaze at the same 450°F, but Ninja lists it well above Cosori's list price for the TurboBlaze.
- Ninja Foodi FlexBasket (DZ071). The same divided-basket idea as the TwinFry, with less capacity (7 quarts), a longer body (20.24 inches), more weight (18.08 pounds) and a higher list price.
- Ninja DualZone 8-Quart (DZ801) and Cosori 9-Quart Dual Basket. Two fixed drawers that can't be joined into one large basket.
- Instant Vortex Plus 6-Quart without the window, and the ClearCook with OdorErase. The first lists for more than our pick and does less; the second adds Instant's OdorErase system at a higher list price.
- Dash Digital Tasti-Crisp 2.6-Quart. Half a quart more than the Cosori Lite at the same list price, but Dash publishes full specifications for only one of its versions, and we couldn't match that version to a single listing.
- Countertop ovens with an air fry setting. A different appliance, with a door, racks and a much bigger footprint. They need a guide of their own.
Keeping an air fryer clean
Let it cool, then wash the basket and crisper plate after every use; grease and crumbs left behind burn the next time it heats. Cosori's and Instant's manuals list the baskets and plates here as dishwasher-safe, Instant on the top rack, though a soft sponge and warm soapy water are gentler on any coating over the years.
Every few weeks, unplug it and wipe the inside of the cooking chamber with a damp cloth and mild dish soap, and look at the heating element above it for spattered oil, as Instant's manual advises. A machine that starts to smoke at the beginning of a cook usually has old grease somewhere in the chamber.
Questions people ask
What size air fryer do I need?
Count the people you cook for at once. One person: about 2 quarts. Two or three: 5 quarts. Three or four: 6 quarts. Larger families, or anyone who wants a main and a side ready together, should look at 8 quarts or more, ideally a basket with a removable divider like the Cosori TwinFry.
Is a window on an air fryer worth it?
If you check your food often, yes. Pulling the basket out lets the heat escape, and Instant's ClearCook window and interior light let you watch the browning without doing that. On the Vortex Plus the trade is a lower top temperature: 400°F, against 450°F on the Cosori TurboBlaze and Pro LE.
Do I need to preheat an air fryer?
Not always. Cosori says preheating isn't required but can make results more consistent, and the TurboBlaze and Pro LE both have a Preheat button that runs about 4 minutes at 400°F. Frozen food and anything you want well browned are where it helps most.
Can you put aluminum foil in an air fryer?
Cosori says yes, as long as the foil doesn't block the airflow or cover the whole basket, is held down by the food on top of it, and doesn't sit close to the heating element. Check your own model's manual first; the makers' rules differ.
